Alright, that's a fairly good portion of what I do at work. I'm going to be out of town for a few days though, so it might be a bit. Thanks for the idea!

Hi.

I would like to learn how to make the Linux 2.6.32 kernel free (deblobbed) and compiled to function on a Loongson (MIPS) machine and be patched with the Arch Linux patches so it can work as a "freed" Arch.

Thank you.

I would love to have an easy how-to on installing argyll cms on Ubuntu Lucid. I know it's not security related, but it's the hardest thing I have ever attempted to do. Any insight would be a revelation for me. THANKS!

I want to know how to log in automatically on a virtual terminal, as well as do a task on login. I want to know more about I2P, and if there is anything wrong with using Tor Firefox instead of just installing tor. I want to know how I can hide that I have installed privacy software. I want to know how to remove folders in my home directory not used in three months; I probably don't need them.

I have been experimenting with Linux for quite a few years on the server side, and this aspect interests me.

How about some really simple examples of troubleshooting problems. Maybe show us how to use htop, iotop, mytop, etc to find out what is taking up all the CPU or memory on a system, find the cause of bandwidth trouble on a server.

Hi soldio,

Sorry for the late response - crazy week. I've got a few questions for you as well.

1.) There is not enough information to answer this. Are you talking about for each client you run? You would need to have a valid certificate from a trusted CA like verisign or another trusted source. Or if you're using firefox you can just add an exception. Like I said I set this up for my internal network (and it has since changed) so I didn't care about SSL warnings.

2.) Again - not enough information. This server does many things, and the number of clients it can support is directly correlated to your hardware setup. As far as providing routing capabilities, VPN, or DHCP to your clients goes there really ISN'T a limit, like I said - it all depends on your hardware. At home I've got a PII box running PFSense now providing OpenVPN connectivity to 3 clients, and I have more than enough computing power to scale up a few more. With a bigger network though you'd want something considerably more powerful, but the software can handle it.

3.) STILL not enough information. It's all really situational. I'd be more than happy to answer any more questions you have but you have to provide me with more info. How many clients are we talking? What does your network overview look like? When you say extending to another router, are you talking about a multi-homed network (more than one ISP)? Then you start getting into the need to run BGP, which is something that I am never going to write a how-to for. I've set up BGP networks before, but if I can help it I avoid it like the plague, because you have to deal with things like the split horizon, and routing black holes - NOT fun.

Get back to me, and i'll see what I can do :)

Great article..

I have questions. Kindly post an answer.

1. How do I get rid of the self signed certificate warning upon logging into zeroshell?
2. What is the maximum number of clients that can be served from this server simultaneously?
3. How do you extend your network using another router?

Hoping for a response soon.. Thanks.

Hi there,

I'm glad you like my blog, but what do you mean by unnecessary comments? My blog section will of course be populated with my thoughts, but the technical stuff I've segregated into individual pages. The comments in there are either meant to be humorous or helpful. I'll keep that in mind though!

Thanks for this nice and short tutorial!

Those who have hard time reading this web page may select Print Preview from Firefox. That makes it pretty clean and readable!! :-)
